The Argentine captain, 26, has been on an extended break after his World Cup exploits. On his return to Melwood he has told new manager Hodgson that he wishes to leave the Merseyside club.
Hodgson Attempts to Contact Mascherano
After Argentina's 4-0 exit at the hands of Germany, Mascherano was granted three weeks leave to recover, and has recently been linked with a move to Inter Milan, where he will join former manager Rafael Benitez at the San Siro.
During this leave Hodgson attempted to contact the midfielder but to no avail sparking fears in Liverpool he wanted to leave.
